Jordan Boys’ Basketball Wins First Moore League Title Since 2009

The562’s coverage of Jordan Athletics is sponsored by John Ross, Class of 2013.

What a season for the Jordan boys’ basketball team.

The Panthers took the Moore League by storm, starting 10-0 and building a four game lead on the rest of the league to help claim their first league championship since 2009. The Panthers are highly-ranked in their CIF Southern Section division and will have a chance at a deep playoff run as well, with brackets slated to come out Sunday.

The Panthers entered the last week of the season with a chance to grab the school’s first undefeated Moore League title since at least 1996, but they fell to Lakewood on Tuesday and Millikan on Thursday, with some starters sitting.

Still, the Panthers made big history for North Long Beach, bringing home the first league title in more than a decade and just the second league title in any sport for Jordan since Ron Massey retired after that 2009 league title.

The Moore League had a three-way tie for second place between Long Beach Poly, Lakewood, and Wilson–all three teams will be the “two seed” into the playoffs since they’re in separate playoff divisions.
