The562’s season previews for the 2022-23 school year are sponsored by Vertical Raise, the official team fundraising partner of The562.

There’s never been a year for Long Beach football like 2021. Four teams–Long Beach Poly, Jordan, Compton, and St. Anthony–made a CIF-SS championship game, with the Jackrabbits bringing home their 20th title.

This year there are key returners and big-time college prospects at almost every school, and the city’s teams look to take a step up in division under the CIF-SS new playoff format. Every team has high hopes that if they can get into the playoffs, they can make a deep run, and with good reason–four of the five teams that made the playoffs last year played for a championship.

With big-name talent and sky-high expectations, Long Beach football is back on top. There had never been a year like 2021–but 2022 might be even better.
