NUMBER FOUR
The Saints showed impressive resiliency on their way to making school history, winning the school’s first ever CIF State SoCal Regional title with a 2-1 win at Temple City. St. Anthony suffered a tough 9-1 loss in the CIF-SS semifinals at Tesoro, but took full advantage of the state tournament that followed.
After winning their opener in the State playoffs at home, the Saints went on the road to knock off top-seeded Granite Hills before beating the bracket’s No. 2 seed in the final. Even in that championship game, the Saints were down to their last three outs, trailing 1-0 on the road. Senior pitcher Rose Cano laced a single to start the seventh-inning rally, then sophomore Miracle McKenzie delivered the game-winning hit, driving in two runs with a single up the middle.
