Football: Cabrillo Pauses Season Following Positive COVID-19 Test

A positive COVID-19 test within the Cabrillo Jaguars football program has interrupted team activities for the Jags for 10 days, and has forced the team to cancel its game against Long Beach Poly on Oct. 8.

Head coach Shane Gonzales confirmed that his team received the positive test result earlier this week, but said that there were currently no symptoms reported. The unvaccinated members of the Cabrillo football team will be in quarantine for 10 days, which ends the day of the Poly game next Friday.

In the meantime, Gonzales will be able to work with the vaccinated members of the team and he remains optimistic that the Jags will rebound and finish out the 2021 season.

“Morale is good,” Gonzales said. “They are excited to finish the year and are already talking about getting stronger for next year.”

The Jags are currently scheduled to resume their season on Oct. 15 at home against Jordan.
