The Lakewood Lancers took control early in their Moore League game Wednesday night against the Millikan Rams, holding on for a win on the road. It was a challenging matchup that tested both teams, with every possession carrying value into the final minutes, and in the end Lakewood took the win by a 58-45 margin.
Lakewood set the tone early, building a 17-7 lead in the first quarter behind Aniyah Lindsey’s strong start as she led the team with six points in the opening quarter.
Estella Lopez helped jump-start Millikan’s battle in the second quarter, knocking down key shots to close the gap and cut Lakewood’s lead to 25-20 by halftime.
Through the third quarter, there was lots of back and forth with Millikan fighting to tie the score, yet Lakewood maintained their lead heading into the final period, 39-30.
As we moved into the fourth quarter, Lakewood was able to extend its lead, pulling away for the double-digit victory.
Lakewood (9-9, 3-1) will be back in action on Friday hosting Wilson, while Millikan (9-9, 1-3) hosts Cabrillo on Monday.
