Lakewood girls’ basketball is going back to a CIF Southern Section quarterfinal game for the first time in more than two decades thanks to a 68-50 win at Xavier Prep in Division 2A on Saturday.
It was a one-point game after the first quarter, but Lakewood outscored Xavier Prep 17-9 in the second quarter to lead 32-23 at halftime. Then for the second straight playoff game, the Lancers turned up the heat in the third quarter and led 51-33 headed to the fourth.
The Lancers have outscored their two postseason opponents by a combined score of 126-81.
Lakewood (27-5) will host Beckman in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
