Long Beach Poly reinforced its Moore League dominance with an 81-13 statement win over visiting Millikan last Friday.

Poly’s Brooklyn Taylor led the Jackrabbits in scoring with a game-high 15 points. The Cal State Bakersfield commit also worked to spread the ball around, and Bailey Prewitt chipped in 12 points for Poly.

Poly opened the game on a 26-0 run while its transition game was excellent with steals leading directly to multiple buckets. The Jackrabbits also distributed the ball well in the first quarter, which ended 29-1.

Joy Anderson had a key steal and score in the second quarter to make it 40-6, and Poly led 51-8 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Millikan got scoring opportunities because of an aggressive Poly defense that put them on the line. But the Rams were only able to convert one of seven times at the free throw line. The other Millikan score in the quarter came from Saryna Bermudez.

Poly remained dominant during the third quarter, working hard defensively led by Jazmyne Shamburger, who blocked a Millikan shot that fired up the Poly bench and crowd.

The fourth quarter began with Poly leading 72-11. Though Poly was leading by over 60 points, Millikan didn’t lose their spark. Melody Dith from Millikan got a bucket and a foul in the main Millikan highlight of the night.

In the final seconds of the game, Poly freshman, Shirayah Lewis-Williams, got her first score of the night, growing Poly’s lead to 79-13. Right after, Poly’s Sydney Boyd’s jumper finished the scoring, capping off an 81-13 win.

During the game, Poly not only worked their passing game, but also highlighted their long range shooting capabilities as Tatyanna Aubry had a pair of 3-pointers in the first half. And her teammates, Jordyn Washington and Helena Vu, also scored 3-pointers.

Poly (10-6) travels to Lakewood on Friday for their next Moore League game, which will be a big league showdown. Millikan (11-8) travels to Jordan on Wednesday.
