HIGH SCHOOL

Kate Eckenrode, Wilson Volleyball

Wilson senior libero Kate Eckenrode has been the Bruins’ defensive leader all season, and in a five-set state playoff last week at San Luis Obispo High she turned in one of her best performances. Eckenrode had 26 digs for the Bruins in the loss.

Jason Parra, Millikan Cross Country

Rams senior and Notre Dame commit Jason Parra had a nice easy weekend at the CIF-SS prelims last weekend. Parra won his heat in 14:48 and led Millikan to a second-best team score in the heat to qualify for this weekend’s CIF-SS Finals.

Nadia Mejia, Millikan Cross Country

Rams sophomore Nadia Mejia finished fourth in her heat and qualified for this weekend’s CIF-SS Finals as an individual with a time of 18:33.

Avery Peck, Long Beach Poly Cross Country

Jackrabbits sophomore Avery Peck led her team to a CIF-SS Finals qualification at last week’s prelims, finishing second in her heat in 18:30. The Jackrabbits had the third-best team score in the heat to qualify for Saturday’s Finals.

COLLEGE

Bruno Chiappini, Long Beach State Water Polo

After winning a silver medal at the PanAm Games in Santiago, Chile with the Brazilian national team, Bruno Chiappini returned to Long Beach State and played a crucial role in their overtime win over No. 12 Loyola Marymount. The Sao Paulo native scored a season-high six goals, including two goals in overtime to seal the victory for Long Beach State, 16-14.
