CIF Basketball: Jordan Heading to First Championship Since 2006

The562’s coverage of Jordan Athletics is sponsored by John Ross, Class of 2013.

The Northside is going to the championship.

Jordan boys’ basketball went on the road to LA and brought home a big win over Pacifica Christian in the CIF-SS Division 4A semifinals, putting the Panthers in their first boys’ hoops title game since Ron Massey’s 2006 squad that featured future Long Beach State standout Larry Anderson. If Jordan wins, it would be their first title since 1996.

Jordan was in a dogfight until the third quarter, when they pulled away en route to an 84-64 victory.

“The first thing I want to say is this is about the community, the Northside,” said Jordan coach Chris Francis. “Those Northside kids trusted coaches that came in and was mean to them and on they ass and talking about discipline, staying on them about doing things the right way. Sixty games later we got a Moore League championship and we’re playing for a CIF championship next Saturday. I might be the coach but the kids bought in, and that’s why it happened.”

Jordan will play against Sage Hill next Saturday with the time and location to be announced this weekend. Four Panthers scored in double digits in Friday night’s win, with Dennis Redmond Jr. putting up 24 points, Kane Young scoring 17 points, and Frankie Chambers scoring 15 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and dishing 8 assists.

We’ll post an update once the game time/location has been announced.
