Lauryn Zwerner, Long Beach Poly Football

The QB for Long Beach Poly’s first-ever girls’ flag football team this year was Lauryn Zwerner, who led the Jackrabbits to the Chargers’ 11-on Girls’ Flag Football championship last weekend. Zwerner impressed all season and on Sunday won the long-throw contest against other girls from around Southern California.

HIGH SCHOOL

Brooklyn Taylor, Long Beach Poly Basketball

Long Beach Poly’s girls’ basketball team has gotten a big boost with Brooklyn Taylor becoming eligible for the Jackrabbits. She’s averaging 15 points and 15 rebounds per game and last week put up 16 points and 12 rebounds in a big win over Wilson.

COLLEGE

Mason Briggs, Long Beach State Volleyball

Long Beach State played two exhibitions last week in Canada against that country’s top program, previously-undefeated McMaster (10-0). The Beach won both matches, with libero Mason Briggs averaging 3.5 digs per set.
