HIGH SCHOOL

Jovani Ruff, Long Beach Poly Basketball

Freshman Jovani Ruff stepped up for Long Beach Poly in a big way last week. He was second on the team in scoring with 19 points against Simi Valley then led Poly in the quarters at Crespi with 18 points to put the Jackrabbits in the semifinals.

Nala Williams, Long Beach Poly Basketball

What more can you say about Poly senior Nala Williams? She’s leading Poly in almost every category and keeps willing her team to wins. In the quarterfinals she had 31 points, 10 rebounds & two steals.

Kamaury Washington, Millikan Basketball

Millikan senior Kamaury Washington continues to put the Rams on his back this semifinals. Washington led his team in scoring with 23 points in the second round and 16 in the quarterfinals to lead them to a pair of wins.

Lucas Gray, St. Anthony Basketball

Lucas Gray picked the right time for the best game of his high school career. He dropped a career-high 23 points in a quarterfinals win last weekend to help put the Saints into the semifinals.

COLLEGE

Luis Ramirez, Long Beach State Baseball

Sophomore Luis Ramirez tossed six shutout innings without allowing a hit in the Dirtbags’ season opener at No. 3 Mississippi State. The right-hander began the afternoon by retiring the first 14 batters he faced and only allowed one ball out of the infield. He finished his day with five strikeouts and picked up the victory.
