The Cabrillo boys’ water polo program is headed back to a CIF Southern Section quarterfinal for the second time in three seasons after going on the road and beating Arroyo Valley 10-4 on Thursday.

The Jaguars will visit Westminster for the Division 6 quarterfinal on Saturday. Game time is TBD.

Mateo Jimenez scored a game-high four goals for the Jaguars on Thursday while Gabriel Castanada scored a hat trick and Tlaloc Morales chipped in two goals. Chris Caracoza led the defense with three steals and a goal. Goalkeeper Rodney Reese was busy with 15 saves.

“It’s a big deal because we’ve had a rough road,” Cabrillo coach Lawrence Durand said of the playoff draw full of road games. “But the best way to go is the hard road. The only teams in our division that have beaten us are are Westminster and Crean Lutheran, so the kids are fired up.”

The winner of Cabrillo and Westminster will likely face Crean Lutheran in the semifinals on Nov. 10.
