Congratulations to our high school Athletes of the Week and thanks as always to Naples Rib Company for their sponsorship.

Sone Aupiu, St. Anthony Football

St. Anthony senior Sone Aupiu turned in the best performance of any Long Beach football player so far this year in a Saints win over St. Pius X/St. Matthias. Aupiu’s final line was over 350 yards rushing with four touchdowns for the Saints.

Erick Barrios, Compton Football

Compton beat Wilson for the first time in 15 years on Friday, thanks in part to junior Erick Barrios. Barrios finished the night with nine carries for 80 yards and three receptions for 27 yards for a touchdown along with a fumble recovery for a score.

Reece Hammond, Long Beach Poly Water Polo

Long Beach Poly is ranked No. 3 in the CIF-SS Division 4 rankings, and beat two other top 10 teams last week. Reece Hammond scored five goals in Poly’s 16-11 win over No. 7 Marina, which saw Poly take a 7-0 lead and cruise.

Angelo Miranda, Millikan Football

Millikan went to North Long Beach and picked up a win over Jordan on the first week of Moore League play last Friday. Rams receiver Angelo Miranda was the featured player with five catches for 144 yards and a touchdown.

Fatima Hall, Lakewood Volleyball

Lakewood setter Fatima Hall has been the Lancers’ QB all season, and she once again led a balanced attack for Lakewood in a sweep of Wilson. Hall had 25 assists, four kills, and two aces in the victory.

Vanessa Holden, Wilson Tennis

Wilson freshman Vanessa Holden was ready for her varsity debut last week. Playing in her first high school match, she swept all three of her matchups with Long Beach Poly to help lead the Bruins to a victory.
