HIGH SCHOOL

Ryan Skjonsby, Long Beach Poly Baseball

Ryan Skjonsby had a huge game in Poly’s win at Lakewood last week. He reached base in all four trips to the plate going 2/2, 2R, 2B, HR, 2RBIs, BB, HBP. Skjonsby also tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Myles Patton, Millikan Baseball

Millikan pitcher Myles Patton did it on the mound and at the plate for the Rams in their win at Wilson. The junior lefty didn’t give up an earned run in 5 IP while striking out 7 batters. He also had 3 singles.

Courtney Cummings, Millikan Soccer

Rams senior Courtney Cummings was a huge part of her team’s turnaround, and helped propel the Rams to a historic third consecutive Moore League finish with two goals against Wilson in last week’s league clash. Cummings had both Rams goals in a 2-1 victory.

COLLEGE

Crystal Washington, Long Beach State Track

Junior Crystal Washington tied the school record in the women’s Triple Jump on Saturday. At 41 feet, one inch, the junior matched the record that was set back in 2008 en route to a dominant event victory at the LBSU Jumps Fest.

An LBC native, Mike Guardabascio has been covering Long Beach sports professionally for 13 years, with his work published in dozens of Southern California magazines and newspapers. He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
