Volleyball: Wilson Gets Revenge Against Cypress

Taking a short intermission from Moore League play the Wilson girls volleyball team looked to get a little payback on Saturday when the Bruins faced Cypress at the Steve Lewis Volleyfest at Lakewood High.

The Bruins (13-6) accomplished just that as they defeated Cypress 16-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-23.

It was an impressive win for Wilson after falling to the Centurions 3-1 at the Molten Classic in August.

“We had a talk after we played them last time,” Wilson coach Carlos Briceno said. “I told them that they’re in our division in CIF and it’s a team we’re going to have to beat if we want to have a chance to win CIF. We have a lot of mature girls on our team and they took that to heart today.”

In the third set Wilson went on a 4-0 run after a Cypress service error and didn’t look back as junior Risa Sena had three clutch kills to help the Bruins pull away.

In the fourth set, Cypress and Wilson went battled to a 21-21 tie but the Bruins pulled away with a 4-2 win to take the match.

Wilson will be back in action when they travel to face Millikan on Wednesday.
