Zion Bowens, LBCC Football
Long Beach Poly alum and LBCC wide receiver Zion Bowens opened the season with a bang for the Vikings, who won 55-24 on the road against Grossmont. Bowens caught a 35-yard touchdown for LBCC’s first score of the game and then a 47-yard one-handed touchdown for the Vikings second score. He finished with four catches for 97 yards in the win.
Kayla Cannon, Long Beach State Soccer
Long Beach State’s Kayla Cannon got to play hero last week for LBSU as she scored a game-winning golden goal in double overtime to get the team’s first victory of the season. Katie Pingel assisted on the goal, which gave LBSU their fifth win in 19 meetings with the University of San Diego.
