Ryan Pettway, Wilson Football

Senior Ryan Pettway has been by far the best quarterback in the city this year, and he led Wilson to its third win of the year in a blowout of Huntington Beach last week. He was 17/21 for 228 yards and four touchdowns, to three different receivers in the win. On the season Pettway has 794 yards passing and nine touchdowns in three games.

Bryun Parham, Long Beach Poly Football

Junior linebacker Bryun Parham helped Long Beach Poly escape their televised game against Los Al with a win, the first of the season for Poly. Parham had a safety as he blitzed in and sacked Los Al’s running back, and then had the game-ending sack as well. He finished with six tackles, including three for a loss, two sacks, and the safety.

Sami Ashworth, St. Anthony Volleyball

Junior middle blocker Sami Ashworth stepped into the outside hitter role for St. Anthony at the Kennedy Tournament last week, with top OH Tiare Jennings out at a softball tournament. Ashworth performed well, earning tourney MVP honors as she led the Saints to a championship averaging 3.47 kills per game, 2.1 aces, and 1.4 blocks per game on the week.

Kaia Brown, Long Beach Poly Volleyball

Long Beach Poly is ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 rankings, but the Jackrabbits got an early Moore League test at home from Millikan last week, with Mina Barajas and the Rams taking them to five sets. Middle blocker Kaia Brown was a big part of why Poly escaped with a win, with 12 kills, four blocks, and .650 hitting.
