HIGH SCHOOL

Feso Kaowili, Cabrillo Football

Cabrillo entered Friday’s game against Compton Centennial winless, and senior Feso Kaowili wanted to do something about it. The senior leader stepped up in a big way, scoring three touchdowns including a 95-yard interception return for a score that sealed the 33-0 victory. Kaowili also led the defense with 10 tackles, helping to shut out the Apaches.

Zechariah Dolphin, Wilson Football

Wilson hadn’t yet had a big offensive explosion, but they got one in a big win over St. Anthony in Friday’s Battle For 7th Street. Some of that was thanks to senior Zechariah Dolphin, who had the best performance of any receiver in the city so far this year. Dolphin snagged 11 catches for 126 yards and three touchdowns, all three in a six-minute span in the second quarter that gave Wilson a 42-7 halftime lead.

COLLEGE

Levila Iosua, Long Beach City Volleyball

This was going to be a statement week for the Vikings in one way or another,  and they proved themselves as one of the state’s top teams with three sweep wins, including a 3-0 victory over perennial power MiraCosta, and a pair of wins over Santa Barbara and Bakersfield. Iosua, the Vikings’ setter, was instrumental in all three. At home against MiraCosta she had 30 assists and a team-high seven digs.

Rocio Rodriguez, Long Beach State Soccer

It had been a frustrating few weeks for the Long Beach State soccer team, with a string of one-goal losses to ranked teams. Rocio Rodriguez helped bust that trend with a record-tying 6-0 win against St. John’s on Friday. Rodriguez contributed on the first three goals, scoring one and assisting on another two. Six goals in one game ties the university record for most scores in a contest.
