HIGH SCHOOL

Gevani McCoy, Lakewood Football

Lakewood was in need of a big win last week in their Moore League opener and they got it 35-0 over Cabrillo thanks in part to a great game from quarterback Gevani McCoy. The gunslinger had 144 yards passing, 150 yards rushing, and four total touchdowns in the Lancer victory.

Qeanu Campbell-Caldwell, Millikan Football

Millikan signal-caller Qeanu Campbell-Caldwell helped the Rams snap a three-game losing streak with a big performance in a 49-0 win over Jordan. QCC started 8/11 for 147 yards and three touchdowns, and ended up throwing for four touchdowns and rushing for another in the win.

Mina Barajas, Millikan Volleyball

Millikan senior Mina Barajas is a big part of why the Rams are tied for third place at the end of the first round of league play, and just two games out of first. Barajas had 11 kills on .500+ hitting last week against Wilson, leading Millikan to just their second win over the Bruins in the last decade.

COLLEGE

Anisa Lopez, LBCC Volleyball

It’s been an up-and-down season for the Vikings, who are 5-5, but last week they pulled off an upset of No. 11 Cypress in five sets. A big part of that win was Poly alum Anisa Lopez, who had 14 kills, 12 digs, and a block. Lopez also had the highest hitting percentage on the team of all players with multiple kills.
