Long Beach Student Makes Spelling Bee Final

Long Beach seventh grader Medina Miranda made the Finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee last weekend, ultimately being eliminated for misspelling “orans” to finish in a tie for 21st.

Miranda will receive $2,000 for reaching the Finals—she reached that round as one of 41 finalists after advancing from a field of more than 500 who qualified via multiple-choice spelling test. Miranda is a student at Stanford Middle School in East Long Beach.
