Tennis: Millikan’s Andy Nguyen Claims Moore League Title

After winning its first Moore League title in more than 20 years last season, the Millikan boys tennis repeated in 21-22 and continued its dominating run at this year’s Moore League tennis finals.

It was a repeat of the 2021 boys title match as No. 1-seeded junior Andy Nguyen once again claimed the boys’ singles title defeating Millikan teammate Nolan Alvarez 6-0, 6-0.

“We spent the entire offseason training so that we could be dominant in this league and that’s what they were,” Millikan coach Torie Frapwell said. “The guys worked so hard and it paid off.”

In the third-place match, Millikan’s Lucas Mikasa made it sweep as he defeated Wilson’s Doug Smith to give the Rams a sweep of the top three spots.

Smith had an impressive run to the semifinals as he defeated No. 3-seeded Franco Fratovic in three sets.

Fratovich and Carlos Reyes claimed the doubles title for Poly after defeating Millikan’s Mikasa and Jack Baker 6-1, 6-3.
