The Milk Bucket will be up for grabs on Friday night at Ron Yary Stadium as Mayfair will look for its second win over the Moore League as they host Lakewood at 7 p.m.
The visiting Lancers (1-2) dominated this rivalry matchup last season, winning by a comfortable 35-7 margin. Lakewood ran for over 200 yards in that meeting while averaging over 11 yards per carry, so will it be a similar formula with Jordan Montgomery and Thales Nguyen getting a steady supply of carries?
Prior to last year’s victory for the Lancers, Mayfair had won the Milk Bucket Game seven times in a row dating back to 2017, so Lakewood will be eager to hang onto the trophy a little longer.
Last week, the Lancers came up just short against Ventura, 26-24, and have played close games in consecutive weeks going back to their 12-7 win at Paramount.
The Lakewood offense has gradually improved each week, and has the chance to put up some numbers against a vulnerable Monsoons defense that has surrendered 40+ points in all three games this season.
Mayfair (2-1) is 1-0 at home so far this year, opening up with a thrilling 41-40 victory over Wilson in the season opener at Ron Yary Stadium. The Monsoons are also coming off a win, surviving a 52-48 battle on the road against Marquez last Thursday.
The offense runs through senior running back Jeromy Powell, who had an “Al Bundy” game against Marquez, running it 36 times for 254 yards and four TDs. On the season, he’s carried the ball a whopping 83 times for the Monsoons and has half of his team’s 12 touchdowns on the year.
