CIF Volleyball: Long Beach Poly Takes Down Corona Centennial in Five

The562’s coverage of Long Beach Poly Athletics for the 2025-26 school year is sponsored by Former Jackrabbits Wendell “WoWo” Moe, Jr. & Tyson Ruffins.

Long Beach Poly’s girls’ volleyball squad went on the road and picked up a huge road playoff win in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 bracket. The Jackrabbits needed five sets to upset Corona Centennial but got the job done, 25-16, 11-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-10.

“It was crazy, one of the loudest matches I’ve ever been in,” said Poly coach Gerald Aquiningoc. “To me, this was a serve and pass game; the sets that we won were because we were serving really, really tough and got them out of system.”

Poly was banged up in a four-set win over Yorba Linda but had middle blockers Allison Wetteland (11 kills on .500 hitting) and Dayna Lagafuaina (six kills on .333 hitting) both back and battling in the center of the net.

Kennah Iamaleava once again led the Jackrabbits, this time putting up 17 kills, 15 digs, and six aces. Cika Talaga had seven kills as did Aleeya Salima. In addition to the six aces from Iamaleava, Cheeky Talaga and Keola Aquiningoc had three aces apiece. Ellie Iamaleava once again came in off the bench and got a pair of blocks in the win.

“Our service pressure was good and we played good defense,” said Aquiningoc. “Shout out to our middles, we’re undersized but they were battling all night.”

The Jackrabbits advance to the quarterfinals where they will host San Marcos on Wednesday night at 6pm.
