PREVIEW: Compton vs. Narbonne, Football

Compton football is the only local team rolling through the 2026 season with an undefeated record. The Tarbabes are looking to improve to a 5-0 record when they hit the road to face off with Narbonne on Friday.

Through their first handful of games, Compton’s offense has been one of their biggest assets. Senior Edward Rivera has been a star for the Tarbabes, scoring 11 touchdowns for his team thus far. Most recently, five of these TDs came in a dominant 63-0 shutout over Gardena.

Rivera leads his team in receiving and rushing yards, fueled by the rest of the squad behind him. Quarterback Donnie Johnson III has thrown six total passing TDs with Rivera as his main target but peppering around the field to other Tarbabes.

For Narbonne, junior Kyle Ficklin has been one of the team’s top performers. Ficklin leads the Gauchos in receiving and rushing yards, making him a key player on offense.

Ficklin and the rest of his Narbonne squad have built a 2-2 record, coming off two consecutive wins as they enter this week’s matchup with Compton. Last week, the Gauchos shut down Hawthorne to claim a 39-0 victory.

With both teams coming off dominant shut outs, Friday night is sure to be an energetic face off between Compton and Narbonne. Neither teams have played before, so it’ll be a fight for the Tarbabes on trying to maintain their perfect record vs. the Gauchos fighting to get above .500.
