The Moore League Girls’ Golf scene is everchanging. Wilson was the outright champion for 15 years, but Millikan surged ahead in recent years to take over the title.
Now, each program has a simple goal: growth. Every team is rebuilding from a strong class of 2026 that has now graduated.
Millikan won back-to-back Moore League titles, and they want to make it a three-peat this year. The Rams lost Moore League Individual Champion Hailey Stoskopf, who led Millikan to their undefeated season in 2025.
But the Rams have plenty of players ready to step up. Junior Jasmine Lim finished second overall behind Stoskopf last season, so she’ll be leading Millikan’s squad this year.
Senior Janelle Pulido and junior Stella Joco will be supporting Lim as returning All-Moore League Second Team golfers. Besides this trio, Head Coach Robert Tomlin said the rest of the roster spots will go to whoever steps up.
“We’re definitely going to be in a rebuilding season this year,” Tomlin said. “Right now, it’s up in the air. They’re decent players and all, but I don’t know what kind of scores they’re going to plug in because none of them have any varsity experience at all. We’ll see what happens.”
When looking to fill those spots, Tomlin has turned to his JV squad and an incoming freshman. Juniors Atiana Avila and Katelyn De Jesus have a lot of experience on the green and played most matches on the JV team the past two seasons.
A new face for the Rams is freshman Lucy Morris, who is sliding into one of the final roster spots for Millikan. Even with a new team, Tomlin said the goal for his program is the same.
“Losing four players from your varsity team is quite a challenge, but the goal is to finish as high as possible as we can in league, qualify for Team Play and hopefully some of my girls will qualify for CIF Individual Play at the end of the season,” Tomlin said.
Wilson has always been a force on the Moore League golf scene. Although Millikan has taken the crown in recent seasons, the Bruins are counting on underclassmen to represent their program this year.
“As a team, this is going to be more about us learning how to come together and setting a baseline that we want to improve on over the next four years,” Wilson Head Coach Paul Henry said. “This is going to be the year where we make all the mistakes, and we’re going to learn from them. It’s okay to make mistakes. You have to make mistakes in golf. This is going to be the season where we feel uncomfortable, so that as we move forward, we can grow from it because growth comes from discomfort.”
After graduating a handful of experienced seniors, there are freshmen coming in with tons of experience. Ashley Lin, Liv Hopkins, Olivia Tenenbaum and Liliana Bayer-Pasquiano are all underclassmen looking to make an immediate impact on the green.
“All of them are remarkably teachable,” Henry said. “As they start to have success, they’ve been very encouraged with what’s happening. Golf is a game of struggle, and you have to have a good attitude about struggling with things. This particular group has been great about that.”
Joining the young Bruins and leading the team is senior returner Sophia Canfield. She will serve as a co-captain alongside junior Isla Moeck, who is also a strong returner for Wilson.
“This is going to be a year where we learn a lot about competition as we work as a group to bring those scores down,” Henry said. “I’m very encouraged to see what the next three or four years holds for us with this many ninth graders. It’s always a growing process when you have to change over most of the team, but so far it’s been very encouraging.”
Long Beach Poly is leaning on loyalty as they jump into the 2026 girls’ golf season. This year’s senior class of Jackrabbits is the same group that saved the program years ago when numbers were low.
“Because of them sticking around for four years, they’ve actually been a pinnacle to keeping the program afloat,” Long Beach Poly Head Coach Bill Dodge said. “When this group of girls came in as freshmen, we only had exactly six girls on the team, and two of them were pretty flaky. These girls came in the very next year and made it possible to develop a team.”
Senior Kara Teter is one of these big returners for the Jackrabbits this year. Teter has qualified for CIF the last two years and is Long Beach Poly’s top golfer this year, Dodge said.
She will be joined by fellow senior Gabrielle Gales. The two have competed against the top Moore League talent, but they’re looking for more success in their senior season.
“I’m just expecting to see their best golf,” Dodge said. “The goal has always been to win league, but we’ve got a tough league. I’m just looking to see what the progress is for these girls. If we just shoot better than we’ve done in the past and we compete, we’ll be happy with that.”
Seniors Abigail Hall, Zoie Zaid, Zimra Zaid and Taylor Chay are the other group of core returners leading the Jackrabbits. Sophomores Veda Shankar and Elizabeth Marquez are the only two underclassmen on Long Beach Poly’s team, but the entire group is working together this season, Dodge said.
“Our goal has always been progress — get better and have fun,” Dodger said. “We’re just looking to have a good season, see the scores get better and make sure the girls have a good time.”
Cabrillo is entering their eighth year under Head Coach Blake Dorman, and they’ve got a set of returning Jaguars putting in the work this season. Senior Kimberly Ramirez Lara is serving as captain this year, relying on her experience to strengthen her position as the team’s leader.
“She’s very driven. She practices a lot. She cares a lot. She’s going to be our leader and our captain this year and will show all the younger kids kind how it goes,” Dorman said of Ramirez Lara.
Seniors Ariana Bustillos and Isabella Cervantes will be key returners for Cabrillo this year alongside juniors Kaydance Johnson and Izabelle Martinez. Bustillos and Cervantes have been golfing for the Jags since they were sophomores while Johnson and Martinez have been in the program since their freshman year — meaning they’ll also bring years of experience to the green.
Joining the program on the West Side are juniors Fatima Gallegos and Layla Hernandez. Both are multi-sport athletes and will turn toward their softball experience to build their golf skills.
“In softball, they’re swinging something at a ball, and it might give them a little bit of a bump in their ability to pick up the sport a little faster than maybe somebody that hasn’t,” Dorman said. “Being softball players, they know how to use their body to generate power. So looking at that, they might be impact players for us as long as they continue to progress.”
As Dorman focuses on the 2026 season with his current Jags, he said his goal has always been the same across his time on the West Side.
“My goal for any girl that plays golf for me is they get to play the first two rounds of the Moore League Tournament, then they qualify for that final round, which means they’ve beat out a good amount of girls from other schools that, a lot of times, have access to more coaching and private lessons,” Dorman said. “They have more resources than we have. So if I could see my girls make those kinds of successes, then I feel like we’ve accomplished something at Cabrillo.”
Lakewood will also have some fresh faces representing their squad on the green. Sydney Adams was the team’s top golfer before she graduated in the spring, leaving room for younger Lancers to step up in 2026.
Head Coach Spencer McDaniel is returning as the Head Coach for Lakewood’s Girls’ Golf team. Augustina Martinez, Jordan Arrellano and Dania Lopez are a trio of Lancers looking to compete on the green this year.
Overall, McDaniel lost some key returners but is looking forward to the upcoming season.
In the Del Rey League, St. Anthony is entering their own rebuilding era. The Saints only have two returners this season after graduating seven seniors, leaving lots of room for growth in 2026.
The top player for St. Anthony will be defending Del Rey League Champ Jasmyn Munoz. The junior is also coming into the season as the Century Club Player of the Year after an impressive sophomore campaign earned her All-Del Rey League First Team honors and an individual CIF award, as well.
Chloe Sakatani is the other big returner for the Saints. The sophomore was the No. 2 player in the Del Rey League behind Munoz, earning All-League First Team and All-CIF honors. Head Coach Robert Klenk is excited to see what these two bring, especially as they step into bigger leadership roles with a brand new slate of golfers.
“What they’re doing is they’re teaching the younger players, the incoming freshmen and juniors on the team, that have never played before,” Klenk said. “Girls can relate more to other girls, so they’re teaching the younger girls on the course what I can’t teach them. They’re helping build the program back up.”
The league’s top golfers will look to lead their team of newcomers this year. Sydney Walters is the sole freshman joining St. Anthony’s squad this year. The rest of the roster is filled by juniors Arlette Alvarez and Alexandra McGuire.
“The kids are just going to improve and get better by each year or by each day that they’re playing,” Klenk said. “Goals for the team, especially the new girls, is basically every match they play, they improve on their scores. Then, we’ll be in the mix as a rebuild team.”
League action will officially kick off next week. Lakewood will start their season against Millikan while Long Beach Poly travels to take on Cabrillo on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Wilson will get in the mix on Thursday, Sept. 16 when they tee off against Long Beach Poly. St. Anthony has already been on the green against Del Rey League opponents, and they’ll continue competing on Monday when they face St. Monica Prep.
