Former Lakewood High ace Anthony Eyanson is making quick work of the minor leagues, and now he’s gaining the attention of baseball fans everywhere.
In his first season of professional baseball, Eyanson is tearing it up across two levels of the Boston Red Sox farm system, and is one of the most exciting pitching prospects in the sport. His performance this season has earned him a spot in the 2026 MLB All-Star Futures game in Philadelphia–the annual showcase of the top up-and-coming talent yet to appear in the big leagues.
At age 21, in his first year out of LSU, Eyanson is sporting a terrific 1.07 ERA in his 12 starts in High-A and Double-A, allowing only 25 hits and six earned runs in 50.2 innings. He also has 64 strikeouts compared to 19 walks.
Eyanson is currently playing for the Portland Sea Dogs, and posted a 0.52 ERA in his four starts in June.
On July 12 at Citizen’s Bank Park–home of the Philadelphia Phillies–Eyanson will be one of 50 top prospects taking the field to showcase his talent as part of the 2026 MLB All-Star Game festivities.
Eyanson will be the fourth Lakewood High graduate to compete in the Futures Game, joining the likes of Travis d’Arnaud (2012), J.P. Crawford (2014 & 2015) and Ricky Tiedemann (2022).
The MLB Futures Game began in 1999 and has been held every summer since, except for the 2020 season. In 15 of the 27 editions, there’s been at least one representative with ties to Long Beach. Eyanson is the 16th different Long Beach product to earn an invitation to the Futures Game.
First pitch for the 2026 MLB All-Star Futures Game will be at Noon ET on Sunday, July 12, and the game will be televised on NBC.
