Badminton: Long Beach Poly Wins Final Event As League Finals Conclude

The Moore League badminton finals concluded on Thursday as the mixed doubles event wrapped up three days of action.

Poly’s Danika Hour and Peter You were crowned Moore League mixed doubles champions after Lakewood’s Jhay Evangelista and Ceci Fonseca weren’t able to compete in the final.

The title was You’s second gold medal after winning the singles event on Monday. You won Poly’s third title after Jackrabbit teammate Danny Lam and Joshua Louie won the boys doubles event on Wednesday. Lam also took third in the mixed doubles as he and partner Diana Perez defeated Cabrillo’s Jomari Pidenis and Julia Rapada 21-18, 16-21, 21-13.

It was a solid week for Poly as they took 1st and 3rd in the singles, boys’ doubles and mixed doubles.

“It wasn’t really really surprising,” Lam said of his doubles win as the No. 1 seed. “We were the favorites so that confidence really lifted me.

Poly’s Landon Morales and Rodan Seng took third in the boys’ doubles. On the girls’ side, Cabrillos’ Michelle Chau and Julia Rapada won the girls’ doubles title defeating Wilson’s Diana Vazquez and Natalie Bejarano. 18-21, 21-15, 21-18.

In the third place match, Millikan’s Leonila Moreno and Harper Young defeated Poly’s Hour and Chaney Roeun 18-21, 21-12, 21-14.

With the conclusion of the Moore League finals, Poly and Lakewood will await their playoff journey after the two teams finished as co-Moore League champions.
