Grant Johnson, Millikan Boys’ Soccer
Sophomore Grant Johnson helped lead an active front line for Millikan on Friday night against Lakewood, putting 5 of his 6 shots on target and scoring a first-half goal for the Rams. Millikan went on to defeat the Lancers 4-1.
Alvino Duncan, Jordan Boys’ Basketball
Junior Alvino Duncan drilled the game-winning three as time expired in Jordan’s win over Cabrillo. The Panthers swarmed the southpaw in front of the scorer’s table and hoisted him in the air following the heroic shot.
Madi Emigh, Wilson Girls’ Wrestling
The junior won her first match at the Moore League finals to claim the 100-pound title. Emigh was Wilson’s lone champion this season.
Kailee Muk, Lakewood Girls’ Wrestling
Muk won her first Moore League title with a win to claim this year’s 115-pound title.
Amiyah McIntyre, Millikan Girls’ Wrestling
McIntyre capped her senior year with the 130-pound title, her first Moore League championship.
Emelia Defour, Jordan Girls’ Wrestling
Defour won her first Moore League title after finishing third the previous two years, claiming the 155-pound championship.
College
Elisa Portillo, Long Beach State Women’s Water Polo
Senior Elisa Portillo made history against Hawai’i, scoring her 210th career goal to pass Cassie Azevedo’s school record set in 2006. Portillo breaks the two-decade-long record with most of her senior season still to come.
Skyler Varga, Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball
Senior Skyler Varga helped lift the Long Beach State men’s volleyball team over its first top-10 ranked opponent of the year at Pepperdine. Varga led the way with a match-high 18 kills on .417 hitting while adding eight digs and three blocks.
