Lakewood will travel to Edison in hopes to stay in the win column on Friday night. The Lancers are coming off a home-opening win against St. Anthony last year and will now be the visitors when they face off with the Chargers.
Both teams are sitting with 1-1 records, so will be eager to get to a winning record as season progresses.
Lakewood had a rough outing against the Saints last week but displayed some serious perseverance as they overcame penalties and miscues to secure a 35-14 victory.
Senior Tiwan Jones was a big part of this success, as he recorded two interceptions and a kickoff return that he took to the house for a touchdown.
Senior quarterback Kade Casillas has also been a huge name for the Lancers. When he faced off against the Saints, he was 14 for 22 with 291 yards and four touchdowns. He currently has 411 passing yards and 226 rushing yards total, according to MaxPreps.
Edison wants to bounce back this week after falling to Yorba Linda last week. Even through the 21-17 loss, there were two Chargers who were named the team’s Players of the Week.
Ayden De Giacomo, junior wide receiver and corner back, earned the offensive honors while senior Will Harrison took the defensive honors.
The Chargers are reigning champions, as they beat Central Fresno 21-14 in the CIF State Division 1-A game last December and beat Simi Valley for the CIF Southern Section Division 3 title. Julius Gillick was a huge part of this championship team last season but has since gone on to join Fresno State’s program.
The Lancers will try to carry their winning momentum into this big match up, and Edison will look to bounce back into the win column. Game time is set for 7pm at Edison High School.
