Lakewood Baseball Alum Anthony Eyanson Leads LSU to College World Series

The562’s coverage of Lakewood Athletics is sponsored by J.P. Crawford, Class of 2013.

The Moore League will be back in Omaha this season, as Anthony Eyanson and his LSU Tigers defended their home field through the NCAA Regional and Super Regional round, reaching the College World Series for the 20th time in program history.

After graduating from Lakewood High in 2022, Eyanson spent his first two college seasons with UC San Diego, putting himself on the national radar with a tremendous pair of seasons in the 619. He transferred to LSU heading into his junior year, and has excelled as the Tigers’ Saturday starter.

Eyanson has an 11-2 record on the year with a 2.74 ERA, racking up 142 strikeouts in just 98.2 innings pitched. During the Baton Rouge Regional, Eyanson earned the win in the opener against Little Rock, then came back to collect the save in the winner-take-all finale.

He tossed 7.2 scoreless innings with seven punchouts to open the regional, leading LSU to a 7-0 victory. Just three days later, he stepped in as the closer to record the final five outs, ending the regional with a strikeout to move the Tigers onto the Super Regional round.

Following that performance, Eyanson was named the National Pitcher of the Month by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association (NCBWA), recognizing his 0.82 ERA across 32 innings pitched in May.

Though their Cinderella run came up short, Little Rock pushed LSU until the final inning in the regional, with plenty of Long Beach representation in their lineup. The Trojans have three players on their roster who came through Long Beach City College: junior Reef Danner, senior Alex Seguine, and junior Ryan Geck.

Seguine is also a Wilson High alum, who started at shortstop and led off for the Trojans. Geck is out of Millikan High, and filled in as the DH and 3-hole hitter for Little Rock.

Eyanson and LSU then took down West Virginia in the Super Regional, with the junior righty picking up the victory in the decisive Game 2. He allowed four runs in five innings with seven strikeouts, with the Tigers winning 12-5 to punch their ticket to Omaha.

LSU will open the College World Series on Saturday against SEC rivals Arkansas. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.CT/4 p.m. PT with coverage provided by ESPN.
