HIGH SCHOOL
Jack Brown, Millikan Cross Country
Millikan’s Jack Brown was the top Long Beach runner in the boys’ CIF-SS Division 1 Finals. He was 104th after the first mile but made up a ton of ground, catching 32 runners on mile 2 and 22 more on the last mile, clocking a 16:02.5 for a Top 50 finish
Nadia Mejia, Wilson Cross Country
Wilson junior Nadia Mejia was the fastest Long Beach runner in the girls’ CIF-SS Division 1 Finals. She set a school record for the Bruins with a 18:13.6 finish, good enough for 18th overall in the race.
Deuce Weston, Wilson Football
Deuce Weston had two touchdowns and 250 total yards in the CIF-SS Division 9 semifinals, leading Wilson to a win and sending them to their first-ever CIF-SS championship game.
Jeremiah Taufi, St. Anthony Football
Jeremiah Taufi helped propel the Saints to the CIF-SS Division 10 championship game with a huge performance in the semis. He led the team in tackles, had an interception, and won the game with a 28-yard touchdown run in the second half.
COLLEGE
Olivia Slavens, LBCC Water Polo
Olivia Slavens has been LBCC’s top player all year, and is now a two-time Conference Player of the Year. She had more than 100 goals this season, none more important than the two she scored to lead the Vikings to their first state title since 2006 last weekend.
