The Long Beach Poly boys’ water polo win at Lakewood on Wednesday was special for the Jackrabbits because it was also the 100th win for coach Ish Pluton.
Pluton, who graduated from Poly in 2011, has been coaching water polo at his alma mater for the last eight years. He also took over as head boys’ swimming coach in 2022.
“It was such a far away dream of mine to coach where I played,” Pluton said. “It’s just really cool to think about how I’ve been here for eight years to coach these guys and getting to 100 wins is a really cool milestone for me. Funny enough, it also happened at Lakewood (High School) where I had my very first competitive swim practice as a Lakewood Aquatics athlete. It’s kind of full circle.”
Poly hosts Wilson for the Moore League championship game on Wednesday.
