It was around this time last year that coach Dylan Thompson took over the Lancers program in a sudden change for everyone involved. Thompson said it was an incredible lesson on how important it is to build the team together.

“Last year was obviously tough on the boys getting a new coach after the season started,” he said. “Coming into this year I have those relationships with the boys. It’s been a year, they know me, they’re starting to know my expectations so everything is going a lot smoother because there is more trust between everybody. They’re a lot more willing to play for each other.”

With only one senior Isaiah Nunez on the roster, the Lancers are dedicated to rebuilding the culture and climate around the team. That starts with training where Thompson has put a premium on the mental aspect concerning fundamentals and base level fitness.

Dean Hutchinson at set guard, Daniel Marquez at center, Daniel Acosta leading the attack and Adam Florek in goal will be key to the Lancers success. Sophomore Javante Fearence has also been disruptive on defense while Maxson Hoke and Justin Munoz have carved out playing time by being fast and unselfish.

Thompson said that beating Cabrillo and improving throughout the year are the major goals for Lakewood.
