Girls’ Volleyball Preview: St. Anthony Saints

After the tragic passing of St. Anthony coach Keli Pula in June, the Saints are rebuilding with a new coach and a new lineup.

First-year Saints coach Mary Amado says her team is talented but young, with three freshmen likely to start.

Senior Olivia Zawalick and junior Khalise Eloi are back in the middle, with frosh Makayla Shepherd and Brooke Jondle looking good as pin-hitters. Freshman Quinn Bell will contribute in the middle and is a strong passer as well.

Maddie Stranz has been featured at setter in a 5-1 as well as a 6-2.

“We are all fired up to get league started and we’re preparing with a tough preseason by playing fellow Long Beach schools Wilson and Millikan,” Amado said. “I expect this team to be resilient fighters. I’ve already seen them embrace adversity fearlessly, which we’ll need to compete successfully in the Del Rey League.”
