Long Beach Sports Calendar Oct. 10-13

Here are some of the important Long Beach sporting events scheduled for this weekend.

THURSDAY

High School Girls’ Volleyball, 4:30 p.m.

There are only three Moore League match days left and co-league leaders Long Beach Poly and Lakewood are both in action as the Jackrabbits travel to Cabrillo and Lakewood hosts Compton. Millikan is also traveling to Jordan.

Long Beach State Women’s Soccer vs. Cal State Fullerton, 7 p.m.

The Beach is returning to George Allen Field tonight for a Big West clash with the rival Titans. Fullerton (8-2-1) has the best overall record in the conference, and the most potent offense. Atlanta Primus and Maddie Bennett lead the Big West with eight goals apiece, and Primus leads the conference with 10 assists. Teammate Haley Brown is second with eight assists.

High School Girls’ Tennis, 3 p.m.

Moore League leading Poly is hosting Compton today while Wilson hosts Jordan, Lakewood travels to Cabrillo and Millikan takes on CAMS at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

High School Girls’ Golf, 2:30 p.m.

This is the last week of Moore League girls’ golf as Wilson hosts Cabrillo at Recreation Park South, and Poly takes on Millikan at El Dorado Park Golf Course. On Tuesday, all four teams will be at Recreation Park and Rec Park South for the final team competitions.

FRIDAY

High School Football, 7 p.m.

Lakewood is a surprising 3-0 in the Moore League, and the Lancers will be enjoying the bye this week while co-league leaders Long Beach Poly hosts Cabrillo at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Millikan is hosting Compton, and Wilson is traveling to Jordan in the other games.

In other action, St. Anthony is hosting La Salle in league play while Avalon hosts Calvary Chapel in league play.

Long Beach City College Men’s Water Polo

The undefeated Vikings are ranked No. 1 in California and will be at the Riverside City College Invitational this weekend. READ MORE

Long Beach City College Women’s Volleyball vs. L.A. Harbor, 6 p.m.

The Vikings have a conference game at East Los Angeles on Wednesday, and then they return home to face L.A. Harbor tonight in another important SCC clash.

Long Beach State Women’s Tennis

The Beach is hosting its annual three-day tournament this weekend after opening the fall season at the UNLV Tournament two weeks ago. All matches from Friday-Sunday will be at Rhodes Tennis Center.

Long Beach City College Women’s Soccer at El Camino, 2 p.m.

After it’s third clean sheet victory of the season last week at Veterans Memorial Stadium, LBCC is on the road for nonconference action this afternoon.

SATURDAY

Long Beach State Men’s Water Polo vs. No. 1 Stanford, 12 p.m.

The Beach is back at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center for the first time this season to take on the best team in the country. The Cardinal are 11-1 overall and have won their last six games.

Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball at UC Riverside, 5 p.m.

After traveling to UC Davis for a Thursday night conference showdown, LBSU will stay on the road tonight against the Highlanders in Big West action. UCR is behind the Beach in the conference standings after losing its last three matches. The Highlanders don’t have any players in the top-5 of any Big West statistical category.

SUNDAY

JetBlue Long Beach Marathon & Half Marathon, 6 a.m.-1 p.m.

If you’re not running or cheering at the marathon make sure you know about the road closures today.
