Long Beach Yacht Club Hosting 58th Congressional Cup This Weekend

The562’s coverage of aquatics is sponsored by the Aquatic Capital of America Foundation.

The Congressional Cup sailing race is taking over the end of Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier once again this week. Long Beach Yacht Club has hosted this regatta for 58 years by attracting some of the world’s top skippers and teams to race here in Long Beach.

Spectators are invited to watch the World Match Racing Tour action from the end of Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier starting at 11:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. There is live commentary and stadium seating for free.

After three days of double round robin racing, Chris Poole (USA), Ian Williams (GBR), Jeppe Borch (DEN) and Nick Egnot-Johnson (NZL) have advanced to the semifinals Friday.

“We are thankful to get the win and stoked for more racing tomorrow,” Egnot-Johnson said.
