The562’s Athletes of the Week is sponsored by the Long Beach Century Club.

Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week and thanks to the Long Beach Century Club and Naples Rib Company for their support.

HIGH SCHOOL

Dennis Redmond, Jr., Jordan Basketball

Jordan made it to the CIF State SoCal Regional semifinals last week, but their historic run would have been cut short without Dennis Redmond Jr., who led them with 27 points in the quarterfinals. Redmond Jr. was 7/8 in the first half of the Panthers’ win.

Julia Miramontes, Lakewood Softball

After a rain delay, Lakewood softball won its Moore League opener with an offensive explosion against Wilson, taking a 14-5 win. Senior Julia Miramontes had three hits, four RBIs and three runs scored as the Lancers’ leadoff hitter in the win.

COLLEGE

Sydney Stevens, Long Beach State Volleyball

Long Beach State’s all-conference beach volleyball standout Sydney Stevens had a great performance last weekend at the Best in the West. She and partner Julia Westby went undefeated against Cal Poly and Hawaii on the final day of action.

Rocco Peppi, Long Beach State Baseball

Peppi led the Dirtbags to a tournament sweep, winning the LeClair Classic at East Carolina. For the week, he was 11-for-23 (.478) with four doubles, a home run, six runs scored, and nine RBI. The redshirt sophomore was also responsible for two of the three runs in a 3-2 upset victory over No. 9 East Carolina.
