Long Beach Poly went down to Orange County and knocked off No. 4 seed Irvine on Saturday afternoon, advancing to the CIF-SS Division 3 semifinals with a 9-7 victory at Woollett Aquatics Center.

The Jackrabbits got five goals from junior Anna Mor and got a terrific effort from goalie Sienna Groves who racked up 13 saves. Impressively, six of those 13 saves came in the fourth quarter to hold off Irvine’s comeback attempt. Groves was also able to thwart three one-on-one chances for the Vaqueros with some clutch stops in the final minutes.

Poly started out strong, leading 4-2 after the opening quarter and 5-2 at halftime. Irvine was able to cut into the deficit in the final quarter, but the Jackrabbits were able to protect their lead.

Cailey Christen scored a pair of goals for Poly, with Ariel Cordova and Marcy Leonor also hitting the score sheet. Cordova also added a team-high three steals. Leonor, Mor, and Jackie Hahn each had a pair of assists.

It certainly won’t get any easier for the Jackrabbits as they’ll be hosting No. 1 seed JSerra in the semifinals on Wednesday. The Lions have dominated the bracket so far, winning their three games by a combined score of 59-8.
