HIGH SCHOOL

Avery Peck, Long Beach Poly Cross Country

Star Long Beach Poly freshman Avery Peck wrapped up her sensational debut campaign at the CIF State Meet in Clovis last weekend. Peck finished 13th in Division 1 with a time of 18:12 at the 5K race, and was the fourth-best freshman finisher in the race, and best freshman from the Southern Section.

Cameron Rhone, Long Beach Poly Cross Country

Long Beach Poly senior Cameron Rhone was fifth in the Division 1 boys’ 5K race with a time of 15:13.0, wrapping up his excellent senior season. Rhone finished in the top five in 11 of the 12 races he ran this year, and will be one to watch for the Poly track and field team in the Spring.

Jason Parra, Millikan Cross Country

Millikan’s Jason Parra was neck and neck with Rhone, as the duo have been for this entire season. Parra was edged out by .7 seconds by Rhone to finish sixth at State, as two of the best in Long Beach history proved themselves among the best in California, too. Parra was the top underclassman in the Division 1 race as well.

COLLEGE

Amanda Lopez, LBCC Basketball

Reigning Conference Player of the Year Amanda Lopez has been on a tear for the Vikings this year, and she put on a clinic in a blowout win over Victor Valley. Lopez had 22 points, nine rebounds, and 13 assists, finishing just one board shy of a triple double. She also had seven steals and two blocks.
