After leading the Big West in virtually every offensive category and going on an eight-match unbeaten streak in conference play, Long Beach State women’s soccer still finds itself having to play its way into the Big West tournament semifinals this Thursday at Cal Poly.
The quarterfinal match against UC Santa Barbara is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at George Allen Field.
The Beach could’ve hosted the tournament with a first-round bye as conference champions, but they couldn’t beat UC Davis last Thursday at home on the last day of the regular season.
A few days ago, LBSU senior forward Lena Silano was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Year and Cherrie Cox was named the Big West Freshman of the Year while Maddy Perez, Julia Moore and Zora Standifer also earned All-Conference honors.
