HIGH SCHOOL

Ava Schaffel, Millikan Softball

The Millikan softball team will play for the Division 2 CIF-SS championship this Friday, thanks to Ava Schaffel’s masterpiece in the semifinals. Schaffel threw a complete game, holding top-seeded Corona Centennial to two runs with 10 strikeouts.

Jason Parra, Millikan Track & Field

Millikan’s star sophomore Jason Parra brought home a CIF-SS championship in the 3200 with a blistering two-mile time of 9:09.39 at last weekend’s Division 1 finals. Parra is trying to keep his golden postseason going through State.

Jillene Wetteland, Long Beach Poly Track & Field

Poly freshman Jillene Wetteland picked a good time for a big PR last weekend. She won a Division 1 CIF-SS championship in the high jump with a 5-8 clearance, the best of the day; it was her best jump by two inches.

Jordan Washington, Jordan Track & Field

Jordan sophomore Jordan Washington continued his incredible campaign with a pair of championships, winning gold in the 100 and 200 last weekend at the Division 2 Finals. Washington was the biggest point-scorer in Jordan’s team victory.
