High School Football Preview: Lakewood vs Jordan

The Lakewood and Jordan football teams head into their matchup Friday night at Jordan on different sides of shutout contests last week.

The Lancers (1-3) are coming off a huge 67-0 victory over Cabrillo that gave Justin Utupo his first win as the head coach of Lakewood.

In the victory, Lancer quarterback Braden Downen threw two touchdown passes and ran one in himself to cap a 3-touchdown performance.

Utupo is looking to have his team clean up giving free yards to opponents — in the first four games, the Lancers have averaged 11.5 penalties a game.

“Defensively we have to contain Damian Henderson,” Utupo said. “He’s one of the top athletes in the league.”

Jordan (2-3) has lost two straight and are back at home after dropping their Moore League opener to Millikan, 44-0.

The Panthers will look to get Damian Henderson going early as they try and get back on track after starting the season 2-1.

The Panthers are looking for their first victory over the Lancers since 2008 when John Timu led Jordan to a 21-14 upset victory.
