The562.org’s Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to all of our Athletes of the Week, presented by Naples Rib Company.

HIGH SCHOOL

Devin Samples, Long Beach Poly Football

Long Beach Poly sophomore Devin Samples isn’t the biggest guy on the field, but he had the biggest performance of the first week of the season. He led Poly to a 27-21 overtime win over Serra on Friday with 26 carries for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime.

Zac Crenshaw, Wilson Water Polo

Wilson has been the dominant force in the pool in Long Beach water polo for a long time, and Bruin Zac Crenshaw reminded everyone that’s still the case even after a 15-month layoff. He had a hat trick in the first 2:08 of Wilson’s debut game against Poly last week, going on to score seven goals in a blowout win.

Ava Bishop, Wilson Water Polo

Wilson senior Ava Bishop had given up hope of a water polo season taking place this year, and said she was grateful to be back in the pool last week. She made the most of it, too, with five goals against Poly and another five against Millikan in a pair of blowout wins.

Cameron Rhone, Long Beach Poly Cross Country

Sophomore Cameron Rhone set up what should be a fun Moore League rivalry for the next three years. Millikan freshman phenom Jason Parra hadn’t lost a race this year until Rhone passed him in the final 100 meters of Poly and Millikan’s dual meet, helping to nab a Poly team win as well.

Camille Lindsay, Long Beach Poly Cross Country

Poly sophomore Camille Lindsay remains unbeaten this season and helped lead her Jackrabbits to a team win over Millikan last week. Lindsay won the 5K race with a time of 19:34, 12 seconds ahead of the next runner.

COLLEGE

Kellie White, Long Beach State Softball

Long Beach State senior Kellie White was named Big West Pitcher of the Week after a pair of starts last weekend that saw her go 2-0, with a complete game shutout over San Diego (with 10 Ks) and a win over LMU while allowing just one unearned run. She had a 0.00 ERA with 12 Ks in 13 innings on the weekend.
