Long Beach State Basketball Dismisses Michael Carter III From Team

Exactly two hours before its regular season finale against UC Irvine, Long Beach State men’s basketball announced that junior guard Michael Carter III has been dismissed from the team.

“Long Beach State Men’s Basketball Head Coach Dan Monson and the LBSU Department of Athletics have come to the decision to dismiss junior guard Michael Carter III from the program, effective immediately,” reads LBSU’s statement, in its entirety.

Hours before the announcement, Carter III played 33 minutes for the Beach during their 71-68 overtime loss to UC Irvine on Friday night. Carter III scored 15 points with three assists and three rebounds in what appears to be his final game for Long Beach State.

The Seattle native appeared in 13 games for LBSU this season, starting all of them. He averaged 14.6 points per game, good for second on the team. Carter III was also a 38.1 percent three-point shooter for the Beach this season and led the team with 17 steals.

Long Beach State concludes its regular season slate today at 4 p.m. against UCI before heading to Las Vegas for next week’s Big West Tournament.
