Long Beach State Ready For Big Saturday

The Long Beach State athletics calendar is packed with action today.

Dirtbags vs. No. 17 Wake Forrest, 3 p.m.
LBSU has a chance to take the series at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field (weather permitting) after a 6-2 win on Friday night. Sophomore Alfredo Ruiz continued his hot start on the mound with seven scoreless innings. Jacob Hughey and Leonard Jones both had two hits and two RBIs in the win.

Freshman righty Luis Ramirez is scheduled to take the ball for LBSU today. Regular Friday night starter Adam Seminaris won’t pitch this weekend due to a violation of team rules.

Men’s Basketball vs. Hawaii, 4 p.m.
The Beach is back at Walter Pyramid for a clash with the Rainbow Warriors. Last week, LBSU used a phenomenal defensive effort to had Hawaii its first Big West loss at home. This quick rematch is key in the conference standings. LBSU (9-18, 4-7) is only two games back of second place in the loss column, and Hawaii (15-10, 6-5) is right above them.

Softball at Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic
LBSU has two games in Cathedral City today against No. 21 Northwestern and Oregon State.

Women’s Water Polo at Barbara Kalbus Invitational
The Beach is back in action with two games as part of this tournament. They’re playing Loyola Marymount at Corona del Mar High School this morning, and the afternoon opponent is TBD.

Men’s Golf at John A. Burns Intercollegiate
LBSU is in Hawaii for the final round of this tournament. The Beach is currently 13th overall, and senior Hunter Epson is leading the way after shooting a 1-over par 74 in the second round.
