CIF Boys’ Soccer Preview: Long Beach Poly, Millikan, St. Anthony At Home

Moore League champions Long Beach Poly, Millikan and St. Anthony will all host CIF Southern Section boys’ soccer playoff openers today.

Long Beach Poly (15-4-5) is facing Redondo Union (10-7-1) at 5 p.m. on campus in the first round of Division 2. Redondo Union has won four of its last five games while averaging almost three goals per game this season.

Millikan (20-1-6) will take on Downey (9-9-4) at 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium in the Division 1 opener. Downey finished second in the San Gabriel Valley League after winning its last three games.

Cabrillo (8-7-2) got a tough draw and travels to JSerra (12-3-1) for the first round of Division 1. JSerra averages four goals per game and has outscored its opponents 64-16.

Jordan (6-3-5) will be at defending Division 2 champion Arlington (15-2-2) to open the postseason.

St. Anthony (9-7-1) is at Clark Field today at 4:30 p.m. for the first round of Division 7 against Milken Community (8-3-4). The Saints finished second in the Camino Real League, and Milkn finished second in the Liberty League.
