Jordan Boys’ Basketball Falls At Massey Classic

STORY BY MATT SIMON

Before Long Beach Jordan’s contest against Corona del Mar on Saturday in the Ron Massey Tip Off Classic at Long Beach City College, Panther coach James McDonald was a little concerned his team would be a little flat playing their fourth game in six days.

McDonald was right as Jordan got off to a choppy start, but only trailed Corona del Mar by two points after the first quarter. Ultimately, the Panthers weren’t able to comeback as they lost 55-42.

Malachi Scott led the way in the first quarter with six points, but the Sea Kings’ Jack Stone took over in the second quarter scoring nine of his 21 points while going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line.

Jordan went into the half trailing 23-18 thanks to six points from Bryen Williams, who kept the Panthers in striking distance. In the third quarter, CDM’s Jack McKenna scored nine points as the Sea Kings outscored Jordan 16-15 to hold onto a 39-33 lead.

CDM held Jordan’s offense to nine points in the final period and took the victory.

Williams finished with 13 points to lead Jordan, while Scott finished with 10 points.

The Panthers will be back in action when they host Compton on Wednesday to continue Moore League play.
