CIF Volleyball: Avalon Headed To CIF Championship

For the first time in school history the Avalon girls’ volleyball team will play for a CIF Southern Section championship. The Lancers defeated Mesa Grande in a five-set thriller in the semifinals earlier this week, 24-26, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13 to advance to the final.
The Lancers were led by 13 kills and 14 digs from Daniella Moreno, 28 digs from libero Yuliana Vega, and seven aces from Gisselle Rodriguez.
“These girls have been working hard for four months for this moment and they played their hearts out tonight,” said Avalon coach Carlos Martinez. “To have the whole community behind us was something truly special. It’s a moment none of them will forget.”
The championship will be played on Saturday, with time and place still to be determined.
