High School Football Preview: Long Beach Poly vs. Lakewood

Long Beach Poly (6-3, 5-0) will try to sew up an undefeated Moore League championship tonight at Veterans Memorial Stadium against a Lakewood team (4-5, 3-2) that’s still trying to grab a playoff spot.

If Lakewood wins, Millikan loses to Poly, and Compton loses to Cabrillo, they’d claim third place by themselves. If the Lancers lose, they’ll apply for an at-large–our analysis makes it look likely that they’ll receive one.

The challenge for a Poly defense that’s been dominant will be reigning in Lakewood quarterback Gevani McCoy, as the junior has been running wild for most of the Moore League schedule. It will be interesting to see what the Jackrabbits come out with offensively since they’ve had run-heavy games and pass-heavy games over the last five weeks.
