High School Football Preview: Millikan vs. Jordan

Millikan is hosting Jordan tonight at 7 as the Moore League season gets underway across the city. The Rams (1-3) are coming off three straight losses and the Panthers (3-0) are off to their best start since 2008.

“They’re very excited about being 3-0 and they talk about it every day at practice,” Jordan coach Tim Wedlow said of his team. “Mentally everybody is in great shape.”

Wedlow said his teams success is the byproduct of good leadership from senior captains Nehemiah Condon, Jaylon Morgan and Jordan Wofford. Receivers Condon and Morgan have combined for 236 of the 387 yards passing from quarterback Isaac Ochoa. The junior has six touchdowns and no interceptions. Wofford has a team-high 24 tackles.

Millikan almost made a huge comeback at La Mirada last week when Jerron Lincoln came in for injured starting quarterback Qeanu Campbell-Caldwell. Lincoln is also a starting receiver and Campbell-Caldwell is a three-year starter who has the school record for career touchdowns.

“Qeanu was our starter to star the season off, he got hurt, Jerron stepped in and had a great game,” Millikan first-year coach Romeo Pellum said. “They are both healthy now. They both will be on the field.”

Peplum declined to give further details on whether or not both players are planning to take snaps tonight. Wedlow said his defense has been preparing for both quarterbacks since Lincoln is more effective on the run.

“On defense we’ve got to get pressure and stop their running game,” Wedlow said.

Jordan and Millikan have split their last eight meetings, but the Rams have won the last two league games against the Panthers.
